I sat through 20 episodes of filler before checking if the anime was canon only
I was watching this long running series and kept wondering why the story felt like it was going nowhere. After 20 episodes I finally looked up a filler list online and realized I had been watching pure filler the whole time. Turns out the actual canon episodes were way shorter and way better paced. Has anyone else wasted a ton of time on filler before realizing they needed a guide?

Watched all of Naruto before realizing half of it was filler. Spent a solid 3 months on episodes that had nothing to do with the main plot. Learned my lesson the hard way, now I always check a filler guide before starting any show over 50 episodes. My buddy skipped the entire Bount arc in Bleach and told me I wasted 40 hours, he wasn't wrong.
