Hot take: I dropped $240 on a region-free Blu-ray player just for anime and it fixed my life
I used to watch everything on sketchy streaming sites and the subs were always off by like three seconds and the video looked like it was shot through a foggy window. So I finally spent $240 on a region-free player from a shop in Seattle and I have not looked back since. The big reason was the Japanese Blu-rays of shows that never got a US release, and those discs are locked to region A or B depending on where they came from. The player handles both, plus it upscales old DVDs way better than my console did, so my Ghibli collection finally looks right. The downside is now I keep buying import discs at $60 to $80 a pop, which is its own problem. But if you care about watching stuff the way it was meant to look, it is worth saving up for. Has anyone else gone down the region-free rabbit hole, or am I just bad with money?
