Appreciation post: I spent 3 weekends trying to figure out why my anime Blu-ray skipped, and the answer was 1 tiny setting

Last month I bought a used copy of the Cowboy Bebop Blu-ray set off eBay for $22, and every time the opening credits hit, the disc would skip about 4 seconds ahead. I blamed the disc, bought a replacement, and it did the exact same thing, so then I blamed my player, then my HDMI cable, then my TV. Three weekends and $22 later, I figured out it was a motion smoothing setting on my TV messing with the 24fps playback, and turning it off fixed everything instantly. I felt so dumb. Has anyone else run into weird anime playback issues from TV settings instead of the actual disc or player?
