Warning: the guy at the Denver flea market said 'just reflow it' about my 2006 iPod and I believed him
I was digging through a $5 bin at the Mile High flea market a couple weeks ago and this guy next to me, watching me poke at a dead 5th gen iPod, told me the solder joints on those old logic boards 'just dry out and a quick reflow fixes 9 out of 10.' I went home, borrowed a heat gun, and waved it around the board like an idiot, and now the thing doesn't even show the sad face, it's just black, so I'm wondering if I cooked something or if his whole 9 out of 10 number was just something he read online. Did I kill it for good, or is there a way to know if I toasted a chip before I spend $40 on a parts unit?
