Update: My 2008 netbook runs Ubuntu like a dream now after ditching Windows 7

I used to boot up my old Asus Eee PC and wait like 5 minutes just to get to the desktop on Windows 7. It would freeze if I opened more than two tabs in Chrome, it was rough. About 3 months ago I finally tried installing Xubuntu on it because a guy on Reddit said it might help. Now it boots in under 45 seconds and I can actually watch YouTube videos at 480p without crashing. The whole process took me maybe 2 hours to figure out the USB install since it's so old. Has anyone else had luck reviving a tiny netbook with a lightweight Linux distro?

Used to think Linux was just for tech nerds running servers in their basements. Tried Ubuntu MATE on a dying 2010 laptop last year and it breathed new life into the thing, now it's my backup machine for light browsing. Seeing a ten year old netbook stream video without choking is pretty convincing stuff.

Oh man, same here. I had a 2012 laptop that was practically unusable on Windows 10, threw Linux Mint on it and it runs like a champ for basic stuff. It's crazy how much life these old machines still have with the right OS, your mileage may vary but it's been a game changer for me.
