Took me 3 hours to figure out a dead capacitor on a 2002 Dell monitor

Everyone online said it was the flyback transformer but I swapped that thing first and it still hummed. Turns out one tiny cap near the power jack was bulging, has anyone else wasted time chasing the wrong fix on an old CRT?

My buddy Dave had a similar thing with an old Sony Trinitron. He spent two whole weekends tracking down a vertical collapse issue. He replaced every resistor on the deflection board, even had his multimeter out checking all the solder joints. Finally he noticed a tiny crack in a solder joint on the remote control sensor input. It wasn't even on the main board, just a random corner nobody thinks to check. Stuff like that makes you want to toss the whole thing out the window, right?

That line about "a random corner nobody thinks to check" really hit me. It's funny how that happens in all sorts of stuff, not just fixing old TVs. I've seen it with my car too, spent ages chasing a weird rattle in the dashboard, swapped out half the cabin trim, only to find it was a loose penny wedged under the floor mat. Or at work, we spend weeks trying to fix a software bug, rewriting whole sections of code, and it turns out to be a single typo in a config file nobody ever looks at.
