Swapped thermal paste for a copper shim on my 2009 iMac, huge temp drop

I've been nursing this iMac since 2015 and it kept hitting 100C just browsing. Tried the classic Arctic Silver reapply last month, only dropped it to 92C. Then I read about using a copper shim to fill the gap between the GPU and heatsink, figured why not for $8 on Amazon. After installing it with some new paste, idle temps sit around 70C and it hasn't thermal throttled once during video calls. Has anyone else tried shims vs just paste on older Macs, and did your results last or did you have to redo it later?
