Some guy at a repair shop told me my thermal paste application was sloppy

I had been slapping thermal paste on old CPUs for years thinking a big pea size was fine. This guy, must have been 70, showed me a picture of his perfect thin spread on a 2004 Pentium 4. He said "too much paste insulates the heat" and I felt dumb. Now I use just a tiny rice grain amount and my old laptops run 10 degrees cooler. Has anyone else gotten a rude wakeup call from an old timer about something simple?

I mean, I get what you're saying about "standing there feeling small," but honestly I think the whole thing about thanking someone in that moment is kinda overblown. If I'm being real, sometimes the guy causing the problem doesn't even deserve a thank you for fixing it. Like, imagine you pull up to a pump and the attendant is just sitting there on his phone, and you have to wave him down and wait five minutes. Then he walks over slow and grunts at you. When he's done, you just take your receipt and leave. That's not being rude, that's just matching the energy you got. I think we put too much pressure on customers to be super nice when the service is barely average. Maybe it's just me, but a simple "thanks" feels hollow when the whole interaction was annoying from the start.
