Replaced caps on a 25 year old CRT monitor, got zapped twice for my trouble
Picked up a Sony Trinitron from 1999 at a garage sale in Dayton last month for $15. Tried the usual flyback whine fix but it kept shutting off after 10 minutes, so I cracked it open and recapped the power section. Got a nasty bite on my wrist from the anode tube, forgot to discharge it properly, that thing holds a mean charge even after sitting overnight. Second zap came when my screwdriver slipped near the degauss coil. Monitor works perfect now, but has anyone else found a safe way to ground these beasts without buying one of those $40 discharge tools?
