My old PowerBook G4 screen went dark halfway through a flight last month
I was sitting in seat 14B on a Delta flight from Chicago to Denver, trying to finish a project on my 2005 PowerBook G4. About 40 minutes in, the screen just went completely black but I could hear the hard drive still spinning. I figured the backlight inverter had finally given out, so I pulled out my phone flashlight and held it up to the screen to see if the LCD was still working. It was, barely, so I finished the document squinting at the ghostly image for another hour. Has anyone else dealt with dying backlights on these old PowerBooks and found a cheap fix that doesn't involve hunting for rare parts?

Why not just buy a newer laptop that actually works?

Oh man, this reminds me of when my friend tried to fix his old car by just buying a new battery every month instead of getting a proper mechanic to look at it. He spent like $400 on batteries before someone finally told him the alternator was shot. Sometimes you just get stuck in a loop of bandaids instead of facing the real problem, you know?
