My dad's old answering machine ate a meeting reminder and I fixed it with a magnet
I was at my parents' house in Boise last month when their 1994 answering machine started playing garbled messages, so I opened it up and found the tape had stretched near the capstan wheel. I gently nudged it back with a small magnet from the fridge and it's been running fine for 3 weeks now, though my dad still shouts into the phone like it owes him money. Has anyone else kept a tape machine alive this way, or should I just tell him to finally get a digital one?
