My 2009 MacBook battery swelled up, and I stopped babysitting old lithium packs
For years I kept my old laptops on the charger 24/7 because that was the advice everyone gave me back in 2012, and I figured a plugged-in brick was a happy brick. Three months ago my 2009 MacBook Pro turned into a spicy pillow so bad the trackpad popped out, and I had to pry the swollen cell out with a plastic spudger over a cookie sheet in my garage. Now I charge to about 70 percent, unplug it, and let it sit at room temp instead of parking it on a shelf next to my router. The old charge-it-forever habit is what killed that pack, not age. Anyone else switch up how they store their retired laptops, or am I overthinking it?
