Hot take: old ThinkPad trackpoints beat modern laptop trackpads every time
I spent the last 6 weeks swapping between my 2012 ThinkPad X230 and a 2023 Dell XPS for basic web work. The X230's trackpoint is clunky and the rubber nub is worn down, but I could zip around spreadsheets and documents without ever lifting my fingers off the keyboard. The Dell's trackpad looked fancy but I kept accidentally brushing it and clicking on the wrong tabs. Has anyone else stuck with a trackpoint on an ancient laptop just because it's faster for typing?

My buddy Mark still uses a battered T420 from 2011 for his freelance writing. He tried switching to a newer MacBook but kept accidentally deleting whole paragraphs with his palm on the trackpad. After three days he went back to the ThinkPad and said the little red nub felt like coming home.
