Got my old Windows 98 PC booting again after 8 years of sitting in my mom's basement

Last weekend I finally dragged it out of the crawlspace (you know, under the stairs where all the spiders live). It was my first real computer from 1999, a Compaq Presario with that beige tower. Plugged it in and nothing happened at first - totally dead. Spent about 4 hours Sunday checking capacitors on the motherboard and found 3 that were bulging. Ordered some replacements from DigiKey for like $6 total, desoldered the old ones, put the new ones in and it fired right up. The old 10GB hard drive still spins and everything. I was shocked honestly. Now I'm trying to get MechWarrior 2 to run again but the CD-ROM drive is making a grinding noise. Has anyone had luck swapping out an old IDE drive for a CF card adapter?

Reminds me how everything's three times the price it was five years ago @hugo50.
