Got a 2004 ThinkPad running and I think everyone is wrong about Windows 10 on old machines

I see people saying you gotta stick with XP or Linux on these old laptops, but I put Windows 10 on my T42 with a 1.8GHz Pentium M and 2GB RAM after removing the bloatware and it boots in under 2 minutes. It stutters on videos but for basic email and writing it works fine, which makes me think we give up too easy on these older OS upgrades. Has anyone else tried pushing a vintage laptop with a modern OS past what the forums say is possible?

Oh man, I did the same thing with my old Dell Latitude D600 (1.7GHz Pentium M, 2GB RAM) and people told me I was crazy. But honestly? After stripping out all the junk - like literally running that decrapifier tool and disabling superfetch - it runs way better than I expected for word docs and basic web browsing. It chugs on YouTube videos too (especially 720p, forget 1080p) but for writing or light spreadsheet work it's totally usable, and it's kind of funny how the old hardware keeps chugging along when you don't load it down with 50 Chrome tabs.

My Dell had 512MB of RAM and I thought I was living the dream.
