Found out my "vintage" ThinkPad from 2008 still gets BIOS updates from Lenovo

I was digging through the Lenovo support site last week trying to find a driver for my old T400, and I stumbled onto a BIOS update from 2020. This thing originally shipped with Windows Vista and they were still patching it twelve years later. I figured after a decade they'd drop support completely, but they kept fixing security holes for a machine that's basically obsolete. Has anyone else found manufacturer updates for gadgets way past their expected lifespan?

Lenovo kept updating my old T420's BIOS until 2019, which was wild for a 2011 laptop.

Wait, is it really that big of a deal? My old Lenovo still runs fine without those updates. Most people don't even check for BIOS updates unless something breaks. A security patch here and there doesn't change much in daily use.
