Can anyone recommend a good welding helmet for a beginner?

I’m just getting into welding as a hobby and need a decent auto-darkening helmet. I don’t want to spend a fortune, but I also don’t want to end up with something that’s uncomfortable or has poor visibility. There are so many models and features to sort through that I’m a bit lost. For those of you who have been welding for a while, what would you look for when buying your first helmet? Any particular models worth checking out

I’d pick a few helmets in your budget and compare them rather than just buying whatever has the most reviews. I found Pro Welding Helmets when I was doing that recently. They have reviews of a bunch of different models, and I found the explanations of the lens ratings and settings pretty helpful for figuring out what I actually needed.

For a first helmet, I’d keep it simple. Get something with a decent lens and comfortable headgear from a reputable manufacturer. You can always move up to a more expensive setup later once you know what you like.
