Garage sale finds vs thrift store scores, I finally picked a winner
I used to hit thrift stores every Saturday for years, but last month I tried a neighborhood garage sale circuit instead. At the thrift store, I'd find decent stuff but prices kept creeping up, like $8 for a stained lamp. At one garage sale, I got a vintage cast iron skillet for $3 and a working record player for $10. The difference was night and day, the sellers just wanted stuff gone, not max profit. Has anyone else noticed garage sales giving way better deals than thrift stores lately?

Right, the thrift stores near me have gotten ridiculous with pricing, last week I saw a chipped Pyrex bowl for $12. I hit a moving sale last Saturday and the family was practically giving stuff away, got a full set of wine glasses and a barely used Keurig for $15 total. The lady just pointed to a box and said "make an offer on the whole thing.

Have you tried checking estate sales in the suburbs too, @taylor.jessica? That's where I've found the real deals lately, families just want to clear out a house fast. Don't even bother with the main rooms, just ask if they have a garage or basement pile they haven't priced yet.
