Neighbor laughed at me for using a cheap sump pump, but after the spring thaw flooded his basement and mine stayed dry I guess he was right

Old guy two doors down told me to spend the extra $80 on a cast iron pump instead of the plastic one from Lowe's and after that 3 day rain last April his basement had 4 inches of water while mine was bone dry so has anyone else had a pro tell you to avoid the budget option only for it to actually matter later?

Did your neighbor ever apologize or just keep quiet about it? My buddy had the same thing happen with a furnace filter, he bought the cheap fiberglass ones and his HVAC guy told him to get the pleated kind instead. He finally switched after his system froze up in January and he had to pay for a service call that cost way more than the filters would have.

Oh yeah, "cost way more than the filters" is exactly what happened with my leaf blower when I used the wrong gas mix and killed the engine.
