Found a hack for opening stuck jars using a rubber band from the produce aisle

Last week at the grocery store I grabbed a free rubber band from the spinach bunch, wrapped it around a pickle jar lid, and it twisted right off after 3 tries of struggling. Has anyone else tried this trick with random rubber bands around the house?

Heard my friend Sarah tried this with a hair tie once and it snapped in her face. She said a thicker rubber band from the broccoli bundle worked way better.

Wait but isn't a broccoli rubber band kinda the same thing as a hair tie just way thicker? Those things are usually green and way too stiff for this. Honestly if Sarah had that much trouble with a hair tie snapping, maybe she was pulling it too tight or using a cheap one. The real trick is getting the tension right so it doesn't fly off or break. Also I've seen people use those tiny clear hair ties from the dollar store and those snap even easier than the regular ones.
