Update: My boss wants us to handle all lockouts after hours for free.

One side says it builds customer loyalty, but I feel it cuts into our personal time. Where do you stand on this?

Free after-hours work does more than just increase people quitting. @troybell, the cost of replacing staff is big, but missing family time hits harder. For example, getting called out during dinner means cold food and frustrated kids every time. That builds resentment, not loyalty, because tired employees give worse service. Saving a customer now might lose a good worker later.
