Met a vet at the range who freed my stuck bolt with a simple trick.
I was trying out a used rifle when the bolt got stuck bad. A veteran shooter nearby saw me and walked over. He said to lightly hit the bolt handle with a soft hammer while holding the lugs down. It came loose instantly, which saved me a lot of trouble. I tell that to anyone with a sticky bolt now.

Hitting your bolt with a hammer is a terrible idea no matter how soft it is. You can easily mess up the alignment or damage the lugs over time. That trick might work once but it’s just hiding a real problem like bad ammo or a dirty chamber. You should figure out the actual cause instead of forcing it. A gunsmith would tell you the same thing, it’s a band-aid fix on something that needs real attention.

Yeah @rose_hart31, I learned that the hard way with my first rifle.

You talk about messing up alignment or damaging lugs, but how often does that actually happen? I've seen guys at the range do this for years without any issues. A light tap with a soft hammer isn't going to wreck your rifle if you're careful. Sometimes it's just a bit of grit or a tight chamber, not a sign of a major flaw. Acting like every sticky bolt needs a gunsmith is overkill.
