Remember when you could actually find a detached house under $600k in the GTA?
Three years ago, my cousin bought a three-bedroom in Oshawa for $575k, and we all thought that was a stretch. Last month, a similar place on his street sold for over $900k without even having a finished basement. What's the furthest out you'd consider moving now to get something you can actually afford?

Honestly, at this point I'm looking at maps of northern Ontario and wondering if a daily helicopter commute is a tax write off. My limit was Barrie, but now even that feels like a fantasy. I'll probably end up buying a shed in someone's backyard and calling it a "cozy detached studio.

Looked at a listing last week that was a literal garden shed with a space heater duct-taped to the wall. The description called it a "charming micro-cottage with rustic ventilation." My realtor sent it with a crying-laughing emoji. We're all just one bad viewing away from applying for a camping permit and calling it a mortgage.
