Pro tip: Overheard a neighbor in Mississauga say they saved $2000 on a new deck by sourcing the lumber themselves.
They went directly to a mill in Caledon instead of using the contractor's supplier. I'm redoing my own back patio this summer and that got me thinking about material markups. How do you all handle sourcing for bigger outdoor projects?

Oh man, that's smart. It reminds me of when my uncle built his shed. He got all the cedar for the siding from some farm up near Owen Sound that had a small sawmill. The wood was way cheaper, but it was still rough cut, so he had to let it dry for months in his garage before he could even use it. Saved a ton but added like a whole extra season to the project.

But who has the space to let wood dry for months? That extra season is a huge cost too, right?
