I spent a whole day trying to get a color gradient to look right on a screen print mockup

It was for a band poster where the client wanted a sunset fade from orange to deep purple. On my monitor it looked perfect, but every test print came out with a weird, muddy brown band in the middle. I must have tweaked the CMYK values and re-printed it like 15 times. Finally, after about 7 hours, I realized my monitor calibration was way off for print profiles. I borrowed a friend's colorimeter, fixed the settings, and it printed clean on the next try. Has anyone else had a print project get totally derailed by screen calibration?

What's your usual method for checking color before a big print run?

Hey @thead44, that's a huge one. Do you guys still rely on physical proofs, or have you moved to a fully digital soft proof setup?
