My neighbor's story about a missing sock made me question the 'Mandela Effect'

We were talking over the fence last Tuesday about small things that vanish. He said his favorite blue sock disappeared from the dryer 3 years ago, but he found it last week, still folded, in a toolbox he hadn't opened since he moved in. He was sure it was the same sock because of a hole in the toe. It made me think, what if some 'glitches' are just our brains filling in blanks because we can't accept random chance? Has anyone else had a 'lost' thing turn up in a totally normal place and it just broke the whole mystery?

Totally get that. My car keys were missing for a week, turned out they fell behind the coffee maker. Felt like a real idiot after all that frantic searching.

Seriously, that's just the universe teaching you to clean behind your appliances more often.

Yeah @ellis.charles, my watch vanished for a month only to show up chilling in the fridge.
