Warning: I cut a 10-foot pane of tempered glass without a water table
Everyone told me it was impossible, but I had a tight deadline on a Phoenix job and my table was down. I used a standard cutter and a steady stream from a garden hose over a foam pad. It worked perfectly, but I won't do it again unless I'm desperate. Has anyone else ever tried a risky field cut that actually paid off?

Tempered glass can't be cut at all once it's tempered... that's the whole point of tempering. You must have been working with annealed glass that was just really thick. If it was truly tempered, it would have exploded into a million pieces as soon as the cutter touched it. Glad your risky cut worked out, but the material was different than you thought.

Wait, so @wesleyjohnson, if it wasn't tempered, what makes glass that thick so hard to cut?
