TIL that old school putty knives are still better than the new plastic ones
I got a set of those fancy plastic scrapers for a big reglazing job on a 1920s house last month, thinking they'd be gentler on the wood. After about three windows, the edge was totally rounded and useless. I dug out my grandpa's old steel knife and finished the other fifteen sashes in half the time. Has anyone else gone back to the old tools after a new thing let you down?

Totally get this now! I bought into the hype about modern plastic tools being safer for old surfaces. Used a set of those scrapers on my own porch door last year. They felt flimsy right away and wore down so fast. Ended up grabbing an old metal scraper from my dad's toolbox, and the difference was night and day. It just cut through the old paint cleanly and held its edge. Sometimes the old way really is the better way.

Yeah the flimsy feeling is the worst lol. I keep a few of those old metal ones around just for that.
