PSA: I just saw a guy in Dallas using the old way to cut a big piece of laminated glass.
He was using a standard glass cutter and a straight edge on a 4x8 sheet, the same way I did for years before a piece blew out on me in 2021. I switched to a dedicated laminate cutter with a carbide wheel after that, and I haven't had a single blowout since. Who else has made that switch and seen the difference?

That "steady hand and right setup" line reminds me of my buddy who said the same thing. He had a huge sheet of laminate glass blow out last year, cut right up his arm. Now he uses the carbide wheel too, says it's just not worth the risk anymore.

Ever try a diamond wheel cutter on that stuff? I still use a regular cutter with a straight edge on laminate. Works fine if you know the trick. You gotta score it deep, real deep, then snap it on a soft edge. The blowout in 2021 sounds like a bad score or uneven pressure. A carbide cutter is good, but the old way isn't broken. Just takes a steady hand and the right setup.
