My dad told me to use a potato to clean a window and I thought he was joking

He swore it was an old glazier trick for getting a streak-free finish on storefront glass. I was working on a big job in Tacoma last Tuesday and decided to try it as a joke. Cut a potato in half, rubbed it on the pane, then wiped with a clean cloth. The window looked perfect, no marks at all. I still feel silly doing it, but I can't argue with the results. Has anyone else actually used a potato, or was my dad just messing with me?

Wait, does it work on car windshields too?

My buddy Carl tried that on his old Honda Civic last winter. He bought that blue bottle stuff from the grocery store and sprayed it all over his windshield. Three days later he was driving home from work and the hazing was SO bad he almost missed his exit on the highway. He had to pull over at a gas station and use their squeegee with the soapy water just to see again. Now he swears by the Rain-X stuff from the auto parts store and won't touch anything else for his car.

Tried it on my truck last week, @the_mason. It left a nasty haze that made night driving scary. You really need a proper automotive grade product for that. The stuff for house windows can mess up the special coatings. Stick with the car specific sprays.
