Just read that a standard 36x80 insulated glass unit weighs over 100 pounds

Found it in an old glazing manual from the 90s at a yard sale. How do you guys handle big units like that solo without a lift?

Ever try to muscle one of those in by yourself? I used to think suction cups were just for show, but after nearly dropping a patio door, I learned the hard way. Now I use a proper glass handling tool with a strong vacuum grip. Makes a huge difference for safety and control.

What brand of handling tool did you end up going with? I've been looking at them but some reviews say the suction fails, which sounds like a nightmare. Is yours pretty reliable?

Got the Vaculift brand one from Home Depot, honestly changed my whole view on suction tools. I used to think they were gimmicky too until I tried lifting a big piece of glass solo and nearly wrecked it. @margaret_nelson, mine has been solid for about 6 months now, no suction fails yet, just gotta keep the pads clean. The vacuum gauge is nice too, you can see when it's secure.
