Overheard a guy at the supply shop say he only uses one color for everything
Honestly, I was picking up some clear tubing last week and this older guy was telling the clerk he only uses 'Midnight Blue' for every single piece. He said he's done it for 15 years and his work sells fine. Ngl, it kinda messed with my head because I stress over color combos for hours. I've got like 30 different frits and powders, and half are past their prime. Makes me wonder if I'm overcomplicating it just to feel like a 'real' artist. Has anyone else just picked a signature color and stuck with it?

Remember feeling the same way after meeting a potter who only used black slip. Tried limiting myself to three glazes for a month and it actually made my work more focused. Maybe grab your favorite color and just run with it for your next few pieces?

Oh man, this hits home. I see this everywhere now, not just with art. It's like we're all drowning in too many choices, from what to watch to what to eat. Picking one thing, even just for a little while, cuts through that noise. It forces you to really learn that one thing inside and out instead of just skimming the surface of a dozen options. That potter with the black slip probably knows every single thing it can do.

Wow, that's a whole new level of commitment. Honestly, it sounds kind of freeing to just pick one thing and stop worrying. My studio time would probably triple if I wasn't staring at color charts.
