My apprentice told me 'you can't cheat gravity on a 12-inch gather' after a piece slumped in the annealer.

Oh come on, that's just glass being glass. Gravity always wins in the end, but a 12-inch gather gives you a lot more fight than a small one. Your apprentice is learning the hard way that size just changes the timing, not the rules. The annealer just showed who's really in charge.

Wait, did you say a TWELVE inch gather? That's not just a big piece, that's a monster. I've seen pros get shaky with half that size on the pipe. No wonder it cracked, the stress in something that thick must be crazy. Your poor apprentice probably thought they were safe once it was in the oven.

Remember watching a guy try to move a huge bowl before it was properly set. Honestly, the sound it made popping in the cooler was brutal, like a gunshot. Tbh it just proved you can't rush the cooling no matter how good the piece looks.
