I keep seeing people blow their punties off too fast and it's cracking their pieces

My buddy in the shop has been working with boro for ten years and he heats his punties up SLOW. I mean a full minute in the back of the flame before he even thinks about attaching. The glass needs that even heat soak. Rushing that step puts stress right into the piece, and that's what causes those cracks later on. It's not about speed, it's about patience.

Yeah that slow heat is key, especially with thicker punties. Seen so many people just jam a cold punty on and then wonder why their piece pops off the blowtube later. Gotta let that heat travel all the way through.

That's a solid point about letting the heat soak in. Coleman.jade's buddy has the right idea taking a full minute in the back flame. Makes me wonder, how do you even judge when a thicker punty is truly ready? Is it just color, or do you look for something specific in the way the glass moves?
