Everyone says keep family out of the shop, but my aunt's advice fixed my color mix problem.

That rule about keeping family away from your business always sounded too strict to me. Like, why make it such a serious rule if they can actually help? My aunt fixed my inventory system once and it was no big deal, we just talked it out. People act like family will ruin everything but most times it's just about setting clear lines. I get that drama can happen, but is it really worse than any other coworker issue? Lmao maybe we just have chill families or something.

Expand on what @paige870 said, because a lot of folks do have families that can work together well if everyone respects the job roles. The real problem isn't family itself, but mixing up personal and professional without any rules. You're right that with clear lines and a chill family, it often works out just fine.

Yeah but what happens when the lines aren't clear? Like, if your aunt fixed your inventory, cool. But what about when she starts telling you how to run payroll or tries to get her kid a job? That's where it gets messy. How do you even start that talk without it sounding like you're accusing them of overstepping?
