Pro tip: Don't judge a rock by its dirt cover
I was helping a friend clear some land and we kept tossing these dull, muddy stones into a pile for fill. One looked a bit odd, so I gave it a quick rinse with my water bottle, just for laughs. Under the grime, it had these wild, swirly patterns that caught the light. Turns out it was a decent piece of banded chert, not just junk rock. We almost lost it to the backfill, lmao. Now it's sitting on my desk as a paperweight, and it's a nice little reminder to pay attention. Plus, my friend thinks I'm a rock genius now, which is hilarious.

Notice how often we toss things aside based on a quick look. I see it with second-hand shops full of items labeled as trash that just need a wipe down. People upgrade phones every year without fixing the small issues on their old ones. We do the same with opinions, writing them off if they don't match our first thought. It's a habit of missing the good stuff because we're too busy or sure we know better. Your rock find shows how a moment of curiosity can change everything.
