My cousin said all rocks are basically the same and I had to set him straight

We were hiking near Sedona last weekend and he picked up a piece of sandstone, saying it was just a boring old rock. I told him that specific layer tells a story about a huge inland sea from over 250 million years ago. He shrugged and said 'it's still just a rock, Jess.' That hit different because he was missing the whole history in his hand. Anyone else get frustrated when people don't see the story in the stone?

Ever ask him what he thinks a story even is?
