Update: I saw a guy at the grocery store in Phoenix put a single banana in a plastic produce bag

I was at the big Fry's on 7th Street last Thursday, just grabbing some stuff for dinner. I was in the fruit area, picking out some apples, when I saw this guy take one single banana off the bunch. Then he walked over, pulled one of those thin plastic bags off the roll, and carefully put just that one banana inside it before tying the bag shut. It made me stop and think. On one side, maybe he's just being neat and doesn't want the banana touching his other groceries, which I sort of get (you know, germs and stuff). But on the other side, it's one piece of fruit that already has its own natural wrapper, so the extra plastic seems like a total waste. It's such a small thing, but it feels like it says something bigger about how we use stuff without thinking. What do you all think, is that kind of over-packaging just silly, or is there a good reason for it I'm missing?

My buddy did something similar last month, but with a lemon. He put one lemon in a bag because he said the peel felt a little sticky from the store's misters. I get what @troy996 is saying about the knot being extra, but I guess some folks just really don't want any mess in their cart.

Hold up, he actually tied the bag shut? That's the part that gets me. Putting it in the bag is one thing, I guess, but taking the time to tie a knot on a single banana is next level. The peel is right there to keep it clean. It just feels like making extra trash for no real reason at all.
