Question about how you handle group chats for projects

I was running a project with a team of five people, and we were using a single text thread for everything. Last month, a key file got lost because someone asked for it in the middle of a 200-message debate about lunch. The moment I realized it was wrong was when I spent 45 minutes searching for a client's phone number that was definitely sent. Now we split chats: one for work stuff, one for random talk. How do you keep your team chats from becoming a mess?

Honestly, splitting the chats is the only way. We tried keeping it all in one thread and it was a nightmare. I once missed a deadline because the reminder got buried under 50 messages about someone's new puppy. Took me two hours to find the updated project brief. Separate channels for work and random stuff saves my sanity now.

I used to think one chat was fine until my team lost a client contract in the flood of lunch order debates. Your puppy story convinced me. Separate channels are non-negotiable.
