I gave up on the 'one big toolbox' dream and it's so much better

For years, I kept all my sockets, wrenches, and drivers in a single massive rolling chest. Everyone said that was the pro way. But I was always digging for the 10mm. Last spring, I saw a guy at a car show in Daytona with a small cart just for his engine bay tools. It clicked. I split my gear. Now I have a basic cart for oil changes and tune-ups, a wall panel for bodywork stuff, and a small bag for electrical. The big box just holds the weird, rarely used things. I get jobs done faster because I'm not walking back and forth. Has anyone else broken up their main tool set and found it worked better?

Saw my buddy do that with his woodworking gear last month.

My uncle's garage workshop is a total time capsule, full of old tools he refuses to upgrade. He still uses this belt sander from the 80s that sounds like a jet engine starting up. It reminds me of what you said about your buddy's gear, @julia286. There's something about woodworkers and their attachment to specific machines, even the loud and dusty ones. I guess if you know exactly how a tool will behave, you just stick with it forever.
