Years ago, I skipped over camera sample shots in reviews. Big mistake.

Disagree on that one. Found they can be tricky to judge anyway, even now. Too much depends on lighting and editing.

Ever tried to buy something online because it looked perfect in the photos? I ordered a jacket last month that looked olive green on the site, but it showed up this weird grayish brown in my living room. Felt totally duped by their studio lights and filters. You're right that it makes it impossible to get a real sense of color or texture sometimes. I've basically given up trusting product shots for anything where the shade matters. It's all just a guess until it arrives at your door.

Oh man, that reminds me of the great couch debacle of 2020. I spent weeks picking out what looked like a perfect, soft-looking navy blue sofa online. It arrived and was basically a shiny, royal blue vinyl situation. Looked like it belonged in a supervillain's waiting room. The product photos had it in some moody, dark room with a single spotlight. Never again.
