Vent: my new smart scale said I was 12% dehydrated and it freaked me out

I bought a cheap smart scale from a brand called Etekcity about a month ago. It syncs with an app that gives you body fat and water percentages. Yesterday morning, it said my body water was at 48%, which the app flagged as 'severely dehydrated'. I panicked and drank a ton of water, but then I read the manual again. Buried on page 8, it says the readings can be off by up to 5% if your feet are cold or the floor isn't level. Has anyone else had a gadget give you a scary reading that turned out to be a setup issue?

My buddy Mark had his smartwatch tell him his heart rate was 190 while he was just watching TV. He almost called 911. Turns out the sensor was messed up from a loose strap and his lotion. He spent the whole night at urgent care for a faulty reading. Honestly, these gadgets need better warnings before they give you a health scare. Tbh I don't trust any of those numbers now without a second check.
