Rant: My neighbor said his new smartwatch is 'basically a tiny computer' and it made me miss my old calculator watch from 2004.

I was helping him set it up and it hit me that we used to review gadgets for what they did, not how many apps they could run, and I wonder if anyone else feels like simple, single-purpose tools get a bad rap now.

Honestly "they just work" feels like a stretch sometimes. My old can opener was single purpose and it mangled every can. Same with a manual egg beater, that thing was a wrist workout for mediocre results. Sometimes simple tools just mean you're doing all the hard work yourself.
