Always thought a loud beep meant it was a better, more serious scale. I used to seek out the ones that made a big noise because it felt more official. But then I got a super quiet one as a gift and it's way more reliable. Turns out the beep volume has zero to do with the sensor inside. Kind of feels dumb now that I spent years picking the loudest one. I guess they just want you to notice it working, even if it's wrong.
