Dropped $80 on a 'smart' light switch that bricked my whole setup for a day

Sticking to dumb switches is probably the smart move. My own hubris got me last month, I tried to make my coffee maker "smart". Ended up with a cold pot and a router that needed a full reset. Felt like I got outsmarted by a kitchen appliance.

lol "outsmarted by a kitchen appliance" is the most relatable thing I've heard all week. That's like when my "smart" toaster bricked itself during a firmware update and I had to explain to my roommate why we couldn't have toast for three days. I swear these companies make them dumb on purpose just to humble us. My dumb coffee maker has never let me down, but my "smart" one once decided 4am was the perfect time to start flashing all its lights like a rave.
