Vent: I charged by the hour for two months and made $4,200. Switched to flat project rates and made $6,800 the next month on similar work. What's your take?

Flat rates just work better for getting paid what you're worth.

Remember when I tried flat rates? I quoted a client for what I thought was a simple website. Turns out they wanted every feature under the sun. I basically worked for free that month. You really have to know exactly what's included.

How can you even argue with numbers like that? I was stuck in the hourly trap for years, always watching the clock. Switching to project pricing let me charge for the actual value I bring, not just my time. Clients stop nitpicking every minute and focus on the end result. My income jumped in a similar way once I made the change. It just feels like getting paid for your brain, not just your hours.
