Just read that our industry's injury rate is actually lower than construction as a whole, which really surprised me. Saw it in a safety report from the BLS.

That's interesting, but you have to be careful with those BLS numbers. They often group very different trades together. The overall construction rate gets pulled down by lower-risk work like painting or finish carpentry. Our specific trade, like ironworking or roofing, probably has a much higher rate than the report shows. It's why we still need to focus on our own site safety every single day.

My cousin's a painter and he straight up told me his crew has way fewer accidents than the ironworkers on the same site. The BLS lumping everyone together makes the numbers look way lower for the dangerous trades. It's so frustrating when they don't separate the high-risk stuff from the safer jobs.
