I used to think those fancy digital pyrometers were a waste of money
For years, I stuck with my old analog one, figured it was close enough. Then I was working on a big bronze job for a museum in Cleveland and the patina just wasn't coming out right. My foreman, Dave, let me borrow his digital unit. Turns out my old gauge was reading almost 50 degrees Fahrenheit low. That small difference was throwing off the whole cooling cycle. I switched for the next pour and the finish was perfect. It wasn't just a fancy gadget, it was the right tool. Now I keep one in my box. Anyone else have a tool they were wrong about?

Honestly, same thing happened with my torque wrench.

Ugh, @nancys90, right? Mine started clicking way under spec after a few months. Found out the spring inside had gotten weak from being left set at a high value. Total pain. Now I always wind it back down to zero after I use it.

Yeah I used to think leaving it set was fine, but this makes TOTAL sense now.
