Can we talk about the new ceramic foam filters for aluminum pours?

I was sure they were just a gimmick to sell more consumables, but after running a test with and without them on a batch of 356 alloy last month, the X-ray results showed way fewer inclusions in the filtered castings, so has anyone else switched over and seen a real difference in your scrap rates?

How much did that test setup cost you? Seems like a lot of extra steps for a problem degassing should already handle.

My buddy's degassing rig failed, @wrenwilson, and his whole batch turned to expensive vinegar.
