That moment I realized I was stripping old furniture wrong for years

I found this solid oak dresser on the curb last Tuesday, just sitting there with a free sign. Got it home and started sanding it down like I always do, going through the grits one by one. After about an hour my arms were killing me and I was barely through the top layer. My neighbor Bob came over to borrow my pickup and saw what I was doing. He laughed and asked why I wasnt using a cabinet scraper on that old shellac finish. I had no idea what he was talking about. He showed me how to sharpen one and in ten minutes I had the whole top stripped clean with almost no dust. Man I wasted so many weekends sanding stuff that couldve been scraped off in minutes. Has anyone else had that moment where a tool you never heard of totally changed how you work?

Had no idea what he was talking about" hit close to home. My buddy Mark spent three weekends with a belt sander on a single oak table his grandma gave him. Arms like noodles, dust everywhere. His neighbor finally asked why he wasn't using a card scraper. Same deal - ten minutes of scraping and the whole top was bare. He told me it felt like finding out there's a button on your microwave that actually pops popcorn right. Now he won't shut up about scrapers.

Oh man, that's too funny. My friend Dave had a similar moment with his old router. He was fighting with it for two hours trying to get a perfect edge on some pine boards, just making a mess and getting frustrated. Turns out his neighbor saw him through the garage window and came over to show him how to adjust the depth stop properly. After that he had clean cuts in like five minutes. He still talks about it like some kind of woodworking revelation. Have you ever had one of those "why didn't I know this sooner" moments?
